CHRISTODOULOS

Christodoulos Sweets and Pastry, a renowned establishment on the island of Patmos, is synonymous with exquisite traditional sweets, especially the beloved "Pougi" - a popular gift for departing visitors. At the helm of this enterprise is Christodoulos Koumanis, a charismatic figure deeply rooted in the Patmian community.

Christodoulos and his brother inherited the family bakery from their father, Theologos, which initially operated as a wood-fired oven post-war before transitioning into a state-of-the-art "German oven" utilizing modern technology. For decades, the bakery supplied the island with freshly baked bread. Christodoulos` passion for confectionery led him to pursue formal studies in the field in 1991. By 1992, he embarked on a journey of establishing a confectionery shop to showcase his artistic talents, entrusting the family bakery to his brother.

While Christodoulos` patisserie offers a wide variety of confections, including cakes, pastries, and treats suited for various tastes and occasions, the local delicacies of the island have garnered the most acclaim. Among these, the Cheese Pie of Patmos holds a special place, enchanting foreign visitors with its delectable flavors.

During the winter months, Christodoulos caters primarily to the local population, but come summer, his patina sweets captivate the hearts and palates of visitors from around the world. The star offerings include the fluffy Patinioti Cheese Pie featuring three types of cheese, the fried "Pougie" pouches crafted with a special dough, and the grilled pouches made with tart dough. Additionally, the selection boasts two stuffed options, one with walnut, almond, honey, and flower water, and the other being the "pears" (macaroon dusted with powdered sugar).

Another exceptional addition to their repertoire is their homemade ice cream, boasting a wide array of delectable flavors to choose from.

Christodoulos Koumanis, always exuding warmth and generosity, proudly upholds the banner of Patmian gastronomy. His presence is felt at numerous events and exhibitions, both within Greece and abroad, where he serves as an ambassador for the island`s culinary heritage.
