Mythology:
In mythological time the name of the island was Letois. Letios was another name for the goddess Diana, (daughter of Leto) who the inhabitants believed the island owed its existence to.
Etymology:
According to some , Patmos was ounce called Palmosa, relating the island as a place made of palm trees. History: Historians cla i m that the name originates from the name Mount Latmos in Caria , Asia Minor , were the worshiping of the Goddess Diana is thought to have originated from. According to another myth, the island took its name because of Neptune when he stepped on it (step: patima), thus the island was called at first "Patnos" and later " Patmos ".
